Greetings Brethren,

Here I am again to let you know what has happened since my last article. We initiated a new candidate who is now a FC and will be raised a Master Mason on Mon. June 23rd. The Grand Master's reception was a wonderful affair and we sponsored our JGW, RWB Bradford A. Goebel and his Lady Kathy. Lady Sheila and I were honored to escort them for the evening. The next day we presented a certificate to Lady Linda Winnet at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina, for our contribution to Lady Linda's List, a patio set. Thank you to the brethren of Collinwood Lodge for approving the funding, and special thanks to our Senior Deacon, Bro. Danny McNabb for his efforts on this project. GREAT JOB.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, WB Bob Hager and myself attended a memorial service on Johnson's Island. The Grand Master was also in attendance and the Scottish Rite Chorus sang. It was a very nice ceremony. On May 31st, we had our Scholarship dinner to raise money for our Collinwood Lodge Scholarship Fund. We had a nice turnout and a great show was put on by the Sentimental Swingtime. Our Secretary, WB Hob Miller and Lady Birdie prepared a fine lasagna dinner that everyone enjoyed. GREAT JOB Birdie and Hob.

On June 7th WB Bob Hager, WB Thom Hance, RWB Don Van Horn, WB Bruce Knopp of Euclid Lodge #599 and myself attended a Installation of Officers at Dundurn Lodge#475 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Our Canadian Brethren really put on a great installation, different than what we see here, and also a great banquet. I was really impressed with the way they show their love for Freemasonry and the respect they showed me as an Installed Master. I really appreciated it.

We held our Table Lodge and Scholarship Award Recipients Appreciation on June 9th. Although not well attended, we enjoyed ourselves and had a great meal. A great deal of thanks goes out to our Senior Steward, Bro. Jason Miskiewicz for the EXCELLENT job he did in preparing the meal, he deserves a great deal of respect and congratulations for everything that he did, and thank you to everyone who helped him. GREAT JOB JASON. And congratulations to our Scholarship Recipients as we presented the checks to our 2008 Awardees.

The District bus trip to Columbus for the Bicentennial Parade will be on Sat. June 21st. Hope to see you all there. A Special meeting is called for Wed. July 2nd for the purpose of initiating 2 candidates at 7:30 PM. Masonic Day at Progressive Field is on Thurs. July 10th. Our Grand Master will throw out the first pitch. Lets have a good showing for these events.

Our annual outing at the Lake County Captains game will be on Sat., Aug. 9th. Contact our Junior Warden, Bro. Tim Collins for tickets. We will have a Goodtime III cruise on Sat. Aug. 16th., it is a 9:00 PM evening cruise at $18.00 per person, contact me for reservations. Our Lodge picnic will be on Sun. Aug., 24th at 2:00 PM at Bro. Freddy Moses' house. More details will follow. Hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer and I hope to see you at our upcoming events. Until we meet again.

Greetings from the East Brethren. A lot has happened since my last article. We had our annual inspection in the Fellowcraft degree on Feb. 25th. Our candidate received an excellent degree. I am very proud of the officers for the fine work that they did. The dinner, consisting of Swiss steak, prepared by Sharon Jakse was very good, and the inspection was very well attended. On March 10th we had our Al Koran Shrine Night. Ill. Sir Jack Conner, Potentate of Al Koran Shrine, brought some of his officers and ladies to Collinwood Lodge and Ill. Sir Ken Wiedig PP, who is a member of the Board of Directors of the Erie Hospital, gave a very informative and emotional talk on the hospitals. Ill. Sir Conner stressed the importance of going to the Blue Lodges to do these presentations and reminded us that Shriners are Masons first, that we are all brothers, not separate organizations.

So far, Collinwood Lodge has been to every inspection in the 22nd district. Keep up the good work. Special thanks to our Senior Deacon, Bro Danny McNabb, for putting together the traveling arrangements. I also want to thank Danny for all the work he did on Collinwood's behalf for Lady Linda's list. We, as a lodge contributed the sum of $750.00 to purchase a patio set for the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina. We are the only lodge in the state of Ohio to contribute thus far. We should be very proud of this endeavor, as Collinwood Lodge is once again, in the forefront. We will be presenting the certificate to Lady Linda at the Grand Master's reception on May 17th. We have several more activities planned in the next several months, so stay tuned to our website and to the Kernels. Until we meet again...

Warmest Fraternal Regards,
Bill Mehle

Welcome back to our web site! And soon, I’ll be saying "Welcome back to Lodge" as we’ll be returning to labor on September 10th. We will confer a FC degree that night. Our Senior Warden, Bro Bill Mehle, will confer the degree. Please come to Lodge that night to show him and the rest of our dedicated officer corps your support. We’re proud of the ritual work that we do at Collinwood, and it’s impressive when the sidelines are full for our candidates.

We enjoyed a couple of fun events this week. Several Collinwood members set sail with Coeur de Lion Commandery on the Goodtime III on August 25th. In addition to my lady Del and I, JD Rob Frankel, SD Tim Collins and lady Linda, Chaplain John Cochell and lady Debi and PM Suat Aricanli and his lady Michele were on the evening cruise. Just as we were about to depart from the dock, the Cleveland Browns entertained us with a spectacular fireworks display over Cleveland Stadium, then we sailed down the Cuyahoga River for a scenic voyage through the Flats, under the various bridges and beyond. Although Del an I both seem to have come down with summer colds from the cool night air, we had a wonderful time.

Our second potluck dinner/movie night on the 28th was also a success. Two dozen people took part in the event, and there was enough good food for twice that number. We sat back afterwards and watched the animated feature "Cars" on the big (10-foot!) screen. What a fun evening! Everyone pitched in to clean up afterwards, and we were done in no time. I really appreciate all of the help – when we work together, we can get things done right. Hopefully, we’ll have more of these dinner/movie nights in the future. They are very inexpensive for the Lodge, we enjoy great fellowship and food, and it’s so nice to enjoy the entertainment possibilities that our projector affords us.

Our next social event is Railroad Night on September 15th at 6:30 PM. WB Jack Metcalf has been working very hard to put together a special evening for us, while he has also been going through the difficult task of moving his household at the same time. I think this will be the best Railroad Night yet. We’ll feast on hobo stew, then adjourn to the Lodge room for a family program. The model railroad club will once again display their modules on the Lodge room floor, and kids will have a chance to operate the trains. There will be a Lego demonstration. Our key speaker will be Brother Jerry Joe Jacobson, who is coming all the way from Coshocton to participate. Brother Jacobson is the CEO and owner of the Ohio Central Railroad system http://www.ohiocentral.com , which is a conglomeration of ten small railroads in the region. He will offer us a unique perspective on the railroad industry in our state. Dinner tickets are $8.00 and can be ordered from WB Metcalf at (440) 729-0557, or from any Collinwood officer. Collinwood widows and kids under 5 are free, but you must have a reservation if you want a dinner.

We will confer the "Rusty Nail Degree" at our Stated Meeting on September 24th. This meeting is open to Master Masons only, since it is meant to reinforce the lessons learned in the three degrees, and to refresh the memory of those who may not have been to Lodge in a while. If you haven’t attended Lodge in a long time, this is a night you don’t want to miss.

I recently spoke with WB Chuck Krall, who is now living with his wife Ruby in Rock Hill, SC. He asked me to send you his greetings. He says he has many fond memories of Collinwood Lodge.

Details will be on our web site soon, and flyers will be in the mail regarding our Clam Bake on October 6th. Mark your calendars now - Bro. Freddy Moses and his committee have worked hard to put together a first-class social event for us.

Deadline for articles and photographs for the Kernels is September 17th – get them in to me soon!

Come back to www.collinwood582.org often to keep up with all of our activities!

Fraternal Regards,
Bob Hager
Worshipful Master

It was a pleasure to see such a great turnout for our picnic at the Lake County Captains game on August 4th. 73 people participated in the outing. The food was great, and everybody had a great time, even if the Captains didn’t win. Thanks to our Senior Deacon Tim Collins for putting the event together for us!

I would like to remind you that there will be a "Pillars" program on Saturday, August 18 at 8:00 AM. The program, sponsored by the Grand Lodge Education Committee, will be held at 3615 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. For those of you who are not familiar with this annual program, it is an educational session dealing with many aspects of Masonic Lodge leadership including planning a Lodge calendar, membership, successful meetings, and so on. This is an excellent opportunity for Lodge officers to further their Masonic knowledge, but it is also open to all interested Brethren. There is no cost for the program. I plan to attend and I hope to see many of you there.

Our DVD projector fundraising is going extremely well. Thanks to your generous donations, we have now paid $610 on the projector and are down to a $140 balance. To thank you for your efforts, I’ve decided to schedule another potluck dinner movie night at the temple on Tuesday, August 28. The Lodge will provide the meat, beverages and popcorn; you bring a side dish to share. Please call me at (216) 261-9045 to let me know you are coming and to coordinate what you will be bringing. We’ll have a light family-friendly movie after dinner on the big screen.

I would like to put in a plug for an upcoming event in the District. Coeur de Lion Commandery will be sponsoring an evening cruise aboard the Goodtime III on Saturday, August 25th. The ship boards at 9:00 pm and sails at 9:30 pm. The cruise is open to all Masons and their ladies, as well as to all interested friends or family. Cost is $15, 18 and over only please! Call RWB John Cochell (440-951-3846) or WB Mike Libman (216-561-5148), both of whom are Collinwood members, to reserve your seats, preferably by August 17th.

Finally, a reminder to all of our officers – we have an officer meeting on Monday, August 20 at the Euclid Public Library on August 20 at 7PM to put the finishing touches on our plans for the rest of the year. Please plan to attend!

Fraternally,

July 2, 2007

Greetings to all of our Brethren and visitors! The last month has been a very busy and enjoyable one for the lodge, as well as for your Worshipful Master.

I had the occasion to visit Dundurn Lodge #475 in Hamilton, Ontario, for their annual installation of officers. This was a unique opportunity for me, because the entire installation of the Worshipful Master can only be witnessed by current or Past Masters. I traveled with WB Bruce Knopp of Euclid Lodge #599. As current Masters, we were introduced at the altar, received Grand Honors and were invited to sit in the East, beside the District Deputy. The Canadian ritual has elements that were familiar to us, but also it had some very noticeable differences. After the meeting, we adjourned to a local brew pub, "The Winking Judge", where we talked Masonry on the sidewalk patio into the wee hours of the morning.

Our Lodge took a field trip to Columbus in June, where we participated in the opening of the Special Olympics at Jesse Owens Stadium. We were part of a group of 352 Masons who marched around the track and presented a check for $200,000. It was an emotional experience seeing and feeling the appreciation of the athletes and their families for our charitable efforts. Afterwards, we went out to Grater's Ice Cream and enjoyed some decadent frozen concoctions, before retiring to our hotel rooms.

The following morning, we met at the Grand Lodge headquarters in Worthington. MWB George Braatz, the Grand Secretary met us there, and guided us on a tour of the Grand Lodge museum. One item of particular interest to us was a display of Charles T. Raymer's Past Master jewel. WB Raymer was Collinwood's very first Master. After the tour, we went upstairs to the 1820-era lodge room of New England Lodge #4 and conferred the Fellowcraft degree.

We initiated two more new members this month. Due to a work commitment by one of the candidates, we were unable to give him the lecture at the stated meeting, therefore, I have called a Special Meeting for July 10 at 7:30 pm to give him the lecture. Please try to attend that meeting, if you are able.

We will have a picnic and take in a Lake County Captains ball game on August 4th. The picnic begins at 6:00 pm, and the game starts at 7:05 pm. Money for tickets is due Friday, July 20th. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years old. Contact Senior Deacon Tim Collins for tickets.

Our next issue of the Kernels will be mailed the week of July 9th - watch your mailbox!

Bob Hager

Greetings Brethren, and welcome to our web site! We’re very proud of the work Brother Vargo does to keep it informative and current. We hope you will find it useful, and visit us often.

We just had our annual Table Lodge this week. RWB Charles Berry gave an interesting presentation on some of the theories of the origin of our fraternity, and RWB Charles Cole, our District Deputy, brought the fraternal greetings of the Grand Master. We participated in the "Ceremony of the Seven Toasts" and sang the traditional Masonic odes. While the attendance was not as great as I would have liked it to be, I’m sure the Brethren who attended will agree that we had an enjoyable time together.

Our next major event is a field trip to Columbus on June 22nd for the opening of the Ohio Special Olympics at Jesse Owens Stadium, on the campus of the Ohio State University. I strongly encourage you to come along with us and participate in the opening ceremonies. We will depart from the Lyndhurst Masonic Center on Mayfield Rd. Friday at 3:00 PM. Brethren who plan to march into the stadium with us should wear dark slacks, a white polo or button down shirt and bring your apron. No jeans please!!

Those who are able to stay in Columbus that night will tour the Grand Lodge museum the following morning at 9:00, after which we will open Lodge in the historic Lodge room there and confer the FC degree. If you plan to stay overnight with us, LET US KNOW NOW so we can reserve a room for you. There are many out-of-towners in Columbus that weekend, and accommodations are severely limited. Collinwood Lodge has graciously agreed to help offset the cost of the rooms.

Please mark your calendars for Friday, June 29. The 22nd District Awards night will be held at Quarry Lodge in Berea at 7:30 PM. We expect Collinwood to be recognized, and would really appreciate a good showing by the Brethren of our Lodge.

Have a safe and happy summer!

Bob Hager
